Catch up on Day 1 of our Oregon trip here.

The second day of our Oregon adventure dawned gloomily, and the weather remained quite soupy for the rest of our trip. Before we left Texas, I had been hoping we would experience some typical PNW weather during our stay. The forecast had looked sunny and warm, to my disappointment, as I wanted a jumpstart to autumn. Well, we got typical PNW weather aplenty! In fact, toward the end of our trip, I was longing for sunshine again.

Day 2 began with a drive north from Netarts/Tillamook to Short Sand Beach.

Short Sand Beach was my pet project on this trip; I really wanted to photograph a foggy PNW beach. The drive was just short of an hour and I was concerned the fog would burn off. I needn’t have worried; we experienced the thickest fog I’ve ever seen (last photo above).

From the parking lot, we had a short hike down to the beach. The forest felt like something out of Jurassic Park.

We spent almost an hour exploring the Short Sand Beach area. My hopes for moody and foggy beach photos were answered. And it was a cold as it looks!

Our next destination was Lincoln City, which was our home base for the rest of the trip. On the way, we stopped at the Rockaway Cedar Preserve. A boardwalk runs into the preserve to the 154 foot tall cedar tree.

We stopped for a late lunch at Puerto Vallarta in Lincoln City. It. was. amazing. As Texans, we were astonished that coastal Oregon should have such incredible Mexican food. I had a green chili pork tostada while Mom and Leighann split a carnitas burrito. This was our favorite meal in Oregon.

We ended the day by checking into our AirBNB, walking down to the beach, then eating soup and grilled cheese in front of the fire.
